9/2/2023 0 Comments Zankou chicken glendale![]() For several years, Mardiros and other members of the family fought over various aspects of the business, including the rights to the Zankou name. The business’ patriarch, Vartkes, died in 1992. But his parents balked at the idea, and Mardiros struck out on his own, opening Zankou branches in Anaheim, Glendale, Pasadena and Van Nuys. The oldest of their three children, Mardiros, worked with them in the restaurant and had ambitious plans to expand the operation, even to Paris. The couple eventually fled war-torn Lebanon and in 1984 opened the first Zankou in America on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Their shop was tiny, but the tangy garlic sauce that Markrid invented distinguished it from the competition. Zankou Chicken started humbly - it was founded in Beirut in 1962 by Armenian couple Vartkes and Markrid Iskenderian. “But people haven’t seen a multi-state chain doing this type of food before.” “Chinese food has a very broad appeal so does Mexican food,” Ludington said. But there’s a heightened risk when moving beyond the traditional hamburger and fried chicken staples in a fast-casual chain. He thinks a chain like Zankou with Middle Eastern-inspired food could catch on in diverse metropolitan areas. “There are a lot of attractive locations right now that you can get in some very prime locations for next to nothing,” said Brad Ludington, a senior restaurant analyst for KeyBanc Capital Markets Inc. They just want the same things when they go to any in the chain.”Įven though the economy is far from robust, it could be a good time for a small chain to take the plunge. “The customer doesn’t know who owns what. “The danger is if they don’t meet up to customers’ expectations - if they have different prices or different recipes,” said Bonnie Riggs, a restaurant industry analyst with NPD Group. “There are too many bad feelings.”Ĭhain restaurants depend on a strong central core that demands uniformity in the branches. “I don’t think things can be fixed,” Iskenderian said. And that’s not a good recipe for expansion. In 2003, the fight reached horrific proportions when her husband, the son of Zankou’s founders, fatally shot his mother and sister.Īlthough the two sides now coexist, there is no real peace. “Everybody is doing their business, but the relations are bad,” said Rita Iskenderian, who, with her four sons, runs eight of the restaurants. And that family is at war, with two factions long in battle over the chain. So why has expansion of the chain, which debuted in Hollywood in 1984 and once had dreams of spreading across the nation and even to Europe, been so tough?Īlthough there are signs that it’s finally getting off the ground - five more Zankous opened in Southern California in recent years, bringing the total to 10 - it’s a family-run business. Zankou was even mentioned in a Beck song, “Debra.” Critics as far away as New York have swooned over its secret garlic sauce, and the Zagat Guide has called its chicken dinner “the single best takeout dish in town.” ![]() Families line up at the little restaurant chain’s counters for moderately priced rotisserie entrees.

9/2/2023 0 Comments Traktor audio 6 3 decks(Part 2 of this series explains how Traktor detects this information.)Ĭlick the scratch panel to switch between vinyl view and scope view. The direction and speed that the “virtual” vinyl is rotating corresponds to the direction and speed that the timecode vinyl or timecode cd is turning. Vinyl mode shows a “virtual” vinyl or compact disc: the disc rotates if the deck is receiving timecode signals form the turntable or CD player. In vinyl mode (sticker view) the scratch panel looks like the adjoining figure. The scratch panels offer two different views: the vinyl mode and the scope mode. Scratch Panels: Vinyl View and Scope View After clicking Apply the Wizard rebuilds the layouts you need to activate the scratch panels. Select No or Other Controllers in the upper list of the Wizard and Traktor Scratch – A4DJ in the lower list. If your layout selection list offers different layouts you need to start the Setup Wizard (click its command in menu Help). There are two layouts where the scratch panels are enabled. This can only be done by using the layout selector in the Traktor header and selecting the appropriate layout. Traktor Scratch Duo offers no direct way to activate the Scratch Panels. Activating Scratch Panels in Traktor Scratch Duo The Scratch Panels setting is stored within the layout definitions. Traktor does not provide a MIDI command to do this. The visibility of the scratch panels can only be set in this dialog. Scratch panels are always activated for two adjacent decks (i.e. To do this open the dialog Preferences/Deck Details and activate the Scratch Panels with the check box for the decks with which you are using timecode. Activating Scratch Panels in Traktor Scratch Pro The other reason is that scope view offers valuable information that can help solve timecode related problems. One reason is that the scratch panel contains the RST button this is the button you need to calibrate your decks with. If you are spinning with timecode then you should display the scratch panels for two reasons. Part 2 (to be published Friday) explains what’s inside the timecode signal and how Traktor extracts the contained information to control the deck playback. ![]() This article covers the practical aspects and explains how to use the calibration feature to detect, analyze and solve timecode problems. The magic of using timecode to control Traktor results from the interplay between the timcode decoder inside Traktor and the data format on the timecode media. In this article Ranier, the author of the Traktor bible, will show you how to correctly identify almost all possible timecode problems. For this reason I personally prefer the reliability of midi but turntable lovers must be able to diagnose timecode problems quickly and accurately. Its not uncommon to show up to a club and find one turntable is barely working with only a few minutes to trouble shoot before your set. DVS systems like serato and traktor scratch are subject to a wide number of variables including noise interference, cartridge quality and turntable calibration just to name a few. Timecode records are an amazing technology but sometimes their performance can be a fickle beast. 9/1/2023 0 Comments Youtube music playlist![]() There’s also a lot you can do with any individual song that you’re looking at. You can also choose to create an automatic playlist based on what music videos you’ve liked and listened to in the past, or create a new playlist of your own and add songs - with options to make it public on your YouTube channel or set it as private. That makes YouTube Music one of the best options if you like music videos or you want a visual component in the background while you listen to music. Additionally, there are options to specifically search for live performances and similar categories. The videos will downsize and stay in the corner if you navigate elsewhere in the YouTube Music app. YouTube is, after all, still YouTube: Music videos are integrated into the music player and play automatically if they are available with a song (otherwise, you get album art). You can also easily cast it with Chromecast to any compatible screen if you want to pull up a music video, etc. It works, of course, on Android, Google/Android TV, and ChromeOS, but is also available on iOS and WearOS for the Apple Watch. However, there’s also a YouTube Music app that you can download to use the service independently. YouTube Music offers a web browser that will work from the browser of your choice, a good option if you’re on a desktop or laptop computer. Students will have to verify their education status each year to keep on using this plan. Student Plan: This discounted plan offers a three-month free trial and starts at $5 per month. It can also be used to manage YouTube TV services. Family Plan: Starting at $15 per month, this option allows you to add up to five family members over the age of 13 in your household. It also enables song downloads for offline listening. This upgraded service grants access to its entire catalog, allows the app to play when your screen is locked (important for listening on phones), and cuts out the ads. YouTube Music Premium: Fees start here at $10 per month or $100 for an annual payment. If you want to pay for a higher tier, you have a few choices to remove ads and add extra capabilities. They’re not as egregious as YouTube proper where ads can interrupt your music before every song if you skip around often enough, but they are present. The base tier of YouTube Music is free, but you will get some ads. ![]() If audio quality is your top concern when subscribing to a service, YouTube Music isn’t the best choice, but if you are interested in reliable streaming, it’s a very competitive option. YouTube Music does not offer the ability to listen to or download high-res audio files - that’s one area where features like Apple’s high-resolution audio options and Tidal and Amazon Music’s Hi-Fi tiers, among others, can go well beyond what YouTube Music is capable of. Downloads for offline listening provide you with standard audio files. You can switch between these at any time by heading to the YouTube Music settings. High: This sets the bit rate at 256kbps AAC.Normal: This sets the bit rate at 128kbps AAC.Low: This sets the bit rate at 48kbps AAC.These tiers also dictate how much audio will download onto your device and the size of those files: YouTube Music offers three different audio tiers that you can switch between depending on how much bandwidth you are comfortable taking up. To get those, you’ll need Google Podcasts. One thing to note is that YouTube Music does not include podcasts. Still, that’s a boatload of music and should suit most people just fine. At one point, that might have sounded impressive, but most of the major music streaming services now boast 100 million songs in their libraries, including Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, Spotify, Qobuz, and Tidal. Music libraryĪs of April 26, 2023, YouTube Music officially has 100 million tracks available to stream or download. Left to its own devices, YouTube Music will continue playing past favorites that you’ve enjoyed. All this taps into your Google account information and history, so if you’ve already been using YouTube to listen to music for a while, you’ll find a lot of prompts to add your favorite musicians and build out a profile for recommendations (a step you can skip if you prefer). 9/1/2023 0 Comments Cleaning invoice template free![]() It is determined by the hours you cleaned your clients’ house. The striking finale occurs when Morganti compares the final result from Lightroom to those from Topaz. Along the way he demonstrates a couple methods for getting the job done-one with masks and another with global adjustments. The real meat of this video comes next, as Morganti returns to the original Raw file, opens Lightroom, and does his best to fix the soft, noisy shot. Then you can see the improvements made with the two Topaz apps-one slightly better than the other. As you can see when it’s enlarged, the photo needs some work. Morganti begins with the original Raw file he sent to Topaz Photo AI and Topaz Denoise AI in the earlier comparison mentioned above. He also provides a link under the video with his favorite editing apps and “must have” plugins. What we’re trying to find out (in Morganti’s words) is “Does Lightroom’s sharpening and noise reduction stink?” He uses a somewhat soft and noisy image of a bird to illustrate how all three methods work so you can examine the results and decide for yourself. Today’s episode takes things further, with a quick shootout between Lightroom and the options from Topaz. Morganti recently shared a shootout between the two Topaz Labs apps mentioned above, and we encourage you to take a look by clicking on the link in the description beneath this video. We typically post his Photoshop and Lightroom lessons, but today’s video is a comparison to help you decide if you need a third-party app (or two). ![]() Image-editing impresario Anthony Morganti is a favorite among Shutterbug readers for fast and effective tutorials on a wide range of processing techniques. In today’s tutorial you’ll see how Lightroom compares to Topaz Photo AI and Topaz Denoise AI when in comes to fixing soft images and banishing noise. Sharpening and noise reduction are two very important tasks, and there are a number of options available other than Lightroom-including two very popular apps from Topaz Labs. 9/1/2023 0 Comments Style of gable roofsGabled roofs also allow for more ventilation, giving homeowners more available space underneath the roof for features such as vaulted ceilings and attic space. Because they have a simple design and their framing doesn't need to be constructed onsite, gable roofs are typically easier to install, and therefore more affordable than hip roofs. Gable roofs provide versatility and durability that work with many styles of homes, making them a cost-effective and smart choice in most parts of the country. The other two sides extend from the bottom of the eaves toward the peak of the ridge line. With gable roofs, on the other hand, only two sides slope downward. A hip roof has no vertical ends, and the "hip" is actually the angle formed where two sides meet. Hip roofs slope back from all four roof sides down toward the walls of the home, which sit under the eaves. ![]() How Does a Gable Roof Compare to a Hip Roof?īoth hip roofs and gable roofs are popular choices for residential homes, but they're quite different. Traditionally seen in ranch-style or Cape Cod homes, gable-style roofing systems shed water well, making them one of the most popular options across North America. The two sloping sides create end walls to form an "A" shape-a triangular extension called a gable-at the top on each end of the house. This type of roof features two peaked sides that meet at a ridge line. Let's take a closer look at what this roof type entails. While there is a wide range of roof designs, a gable roof is one of the most popular roof types, especially because of their ability to balance aesthetics and utility. ![]() Does your roof have a slope that allows rain and melting snow to drain into gutters or off the eaves? If so, you likely have a gable roof. 9/1/2023 0 Comments Sourcetree discard command![]() Also see the doc-string of magit-wip-merge-branch. Then of course care for the newly coated finish with matte safe products.Ĭheck out ICON 4×4, check out eGarage for more great videos and let us know what you think! Any questions, comments, concerns can be posted below or to us on any so Remember to make it a matte clear coat as to not add any shine to the finish. But if you can afford a few hundred dollars every so often, this will definitely be a great option. The other option is to clear coat your patina finish to give it more durability and protection. This colour is a patina to be applied over the initial colour and then removed leaving a subtle layer over the paint. Note: Because these finishes are fragile, you may need to reapply the coating a little more often than you would a new paint finish. Use matte specific products like the Matte Paint Coating to protect it from further fading. That’s the last thing you want to do with an old gem like these. Patina is not shiny, so don’t use any waxes or silicones that might change the look. The trick is going to keep it from being beaten to a point of no restoration. How is Caring for a Patina Different? A patina finish is likely old single stage paint that has been beaten by the weather, causing fading, damage, and maybe even rusting. Now that the framework and mechanics of the car will last, how do we preserve the paint? Having ICON rebuild it for you allows you safely and effectively drive it for 20 more years. Its seasoned look from mother nature makes each patina unique and invaluable. A car like this is beautiful because it was made and it wasn’t made. Or you get the 55 year old mechanic that just relishes the beauty they see. On any given block you might get the 45 year old woman feeling sorry for you because you haven’t gotten a new car in 30 years. These vehicles are so broadly interpreted by the public that it enhances the overall feeling of owning one. The idea was to keep the look of a beautiful (maybe neglected) gem and make it reliable and comfortable to drive everyday. Then with all new components and technology, the original body is replaced onto the frame. Then ICON strips the body from the frame and rebuilds the chassis. ![]() The Derelicts by ICON are an extraordinary group of vehicles! For more information on powder coating, visit our article, “ What is Powder Coating?” These paint finishes are most common on ICON trucks and the perfect surface to use the Matte Paint Prescription. All of ICON’s production vehicles are painted with powder coated finishes, many of which are matte. Powder Coating a surface provides a more durable and even paint job. Currently powder coating is the main source in painting matte bicycle frames and car wheels. Powder Coating isn’t a new technique, but it is a long way away from being the main car painting technique. Carefully lift off each sticker from the backing paper with a hobby knife. I highly recommend using the soapy water method, as it is the most forgiving and the best way to properly align stickers. And silver stickers are especially prone to creasing and capturing fingerprints. ![]() Applying so many stickers and trying to align them properly can be nerve wrecking. Well, at least not until you have to apply the silver stickers on the inside of the payload bay. The model is full of interesting building techniques and constructing it never gets dull. The shuttle itself as well as its stand and plaque are built from the rest of the bags (numbered 4-16). Although the foils can’t roll up when the Hubble is carried by the shuttle, they can be replaced by golden rods (also included) as a realistic representation. The silver pieces and gold foils make the model look high class and very realistic. In my opinion, this is the most impressive part of the entire set. You also build the display stand and information plaque for the telescope. The first part of the set that you are instructed to build is the Hubble Space Telescope from bags numbered 1-3. Extra tidbits are sprinkled around the instruction pages, which makes the building process more engaging. There is also information about the LEGO designers who worked on this set. The instruction book is 320 pages long, and starts out with information about the five space shuttles that make up NASA’s Space Exploration System (STS) fleet (including the Discovery), as well as the Hubble Space Telescope. These sets are not just great building experiences, but also remind us of the brilliant innovators, hard working scientists, and brave explorers reaching new frontiers. The building instructions are full of educational materials and little tidbits that prompt me to do further research and take the building process slower than usual. The #10283 LEGO NASA Space Shuttle Discovery set was released in April, so I’m a little late with this review, but I like to take my time with space exploration sets. Thus, I was very excited when LEGO announced the #10283 LEGO NASA Space Shuttle Discovery set, the latest set made in collaboration between LEGO and NASA. The #10266 LEGO NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander from 2019, and the #21321 LEGO International Space Station from 2020 are two other excellent sets that are a pleasure to build and are educational as well. The #21312 LEGO Women of NASA highlighted important people in NASA’s history. The #21309 LEGO NASA Apollo Saturn V from 2017 was an amazing building experience and it looks great on display (this set was re-released as the #92175 LEGO NASA Apollo Saturn V in 2020 and is still available at the LEGO Ideas section of the Online LEGO Shop). ![]() The #21104 LEGO NASA Mars Science Laboratory was a short-lived set released in 2014 that I missed out on and would still like to get. ![]() Like many others, I’m a big fan of the NASA-related LEGO space-exploration sets. |
